Atlético Madrid star Julián Alvarez has this week moved to play down the ongoing speculation linking him with a move away from the Metropolitano, specifically to La Liga rivals Barcelona.
Frontman Alvarez has of course seen his name dominate the transfer headlines in Spain for some time now.
This comes amid the understanding that the Argentine has emerged as a leading target on the part of the aforementioned Barcelona.
Amid an ongoing search for a long-term replacement for the departing Robert Lewandowski, the Camp Nou brass are understood to have earmarked Alvarez as the ideal profile of player.
Speaking during an interview with Marca (as cited by Diario Sport) this week, the topic of Barca’s alleged interest, as well as that of other leading clubs across Europe, was therefore put to the 25-year-old himself once more.
And Alvarez made use of the opportunity to play down the chatter surrounding his name:
“Let’s see, it doesn’t bother me. I try not to look too much, but I know that it is talked about. People talk about it on social networks. I think it’s more what is said out there than what really happens. I’m very focused on this season, on what we have ahead of us with Atlético de Madrid. So nothing, I try to distract myself from that and think about myself, about continuing to grow as a player and winning.”
