Julian Brandt suffered a broken wrist against Fluminense at the FIFA Club World Cup which has seen the Borussia Dortmund player wear a splint. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the 29-year-old may have to wear a splint for three months, while surgery could also be necessary for the bone to heal completely.
“I broke my wrist in the tenth minute against Fluminense,” said Brandt, following Dortmund’s 1-0 win against Ulsan HD. “I slipped and landed badly.
“It’s a nasty spot because it’s not healing very well. That’s why I have to wear a splint now. I can’t avoid it. Tape is unfortunately no sufficient but I’m wearing excellent medical care. The splint is just a bit annoying.”
RN report that further tests will be conducted in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday before deciding whether Brandt would need surgery on the scaphoid bone. “We hope nothing has shifted otherwise that could certainly lead to surgery,” said Niko Kovac.
As of now, Brandt is available for Borussia Dortmund’s Round of 16 game against CF Monterrey in Atlanta on July 1.
