Julian Weigl is back in the Bundesliga after completing a loan move to Borussia Mönchengladbach from Benfica.
The 26-year-old returns to play his football in Germany after two and-a-half years in Lisbon.
Weigl, who will wear the no.8 shirt at the BORUSSIA-PARK stadium, moved to Benfica from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of €20m and made 115 appearances for the club during his time in Portugal.
He has joined Daniel Farke’s side on an initial loan deal.
Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus said following the conclusion of the deal: “Julian is an enormously sure ball player and a strong player.
“He has a lot of Bundesliga experience and footballing quality and will certainly be able to help our team quickly.”
The central midfielder has earned six caps for his country and joins Gladbach who are unbeaten in their first four games of the season.
