Lajeadense, in Rio Grande do Sul’s second tier, have signed former Grêmio forward Júnior Viçosa on a contract running to the end of the Divisão de Acesso, which concludes on 30 October.
At 36, he joins from ASA in Alagoas, where he has been since 2022. He has not played since February because of a right ankle injury. According to Globo.com, the club have high expectations and will wait for the coming months’ schedule before any possible extension.
Lajeadense’s first fixture is set to be against Pelotas on one or two August. The opening stage has 16 teams playing 15 rounds in a single round-robin. The top eight progress to two-legged quarter-finals.
Viçosa made his name at Grêmio in 2010 and 2011. His standout display came in the first leg of the 2011 Gauchão final, when he scored twice against Internacional at Beira-Rio.
His career has also taken in Sport, Goiás, Atlético-GO, América-MG, Vitória, Brasil de Pelotas and FC Chiasso in Switzerland, before ASA.
