Having set his mind on becoming an undisputed starter at FC Barcelona during the summer, Ferran Torres has made huge strides towards achieving his objective this season.

The 25-year-old star has taken up more and more responsibility in attack, as the team’s main No. 9, competing head-on with Robert Lewandowski.

So far this term, Ferran has scored 13 goals and set up two more from 22 matches in all competitions, proving to be one of the team’s most in-form forwards.

Barcelona will move to renew Ferran soon

As such, SPORT reports that Barcelona are expected to make a move to renew Ferran’s contract in the coming weeks to ensure that he does not enter the final year of his contract without his future being secured.

The former Manchester City star’s current deal expires in 2027, and club president Joan Laporta has made it clear that the Catalans wish to avoid situations where players enter the final year of their contracts before renewing them.

A similar situation occurred with Jules Kounde, whose contract was also due to expire in 2027. Barcelona did not wait and extended the Frenchman’s deal until 2030.

Now, given Ferran’s contract situation and his growing importance within the team, Barça intend to extend his contract beyond 2027 and plan on opening talks over it soon.

Trusted by Flick

Ferran has gone from being a natural right winger, the position in which he broke through at Valencia and which earned him a move to Manchester City, to being converted into a highly reliable centre-forward.

So much so that the 25-year-old attacker has gained priority in the rotation ahead of Lewandowski in many matches at Barcelona. The No. 9 position is now firmly in his hands thanks to outstanding performances.

Ferran has earned the trust of Hansi Flick through his work. Physically, he is one of the strongest players in the squad.

He works both in training at the club’s facilities and at home, where he has a gym, a hyperbaric chamber, a sauna and a water recovery area. He is also very disciplined with nutrition and rest.

The ideal scenario would be for his renewal to be completed before the World Cup, where he is expected to be an important player for Spain, allowing Barcelona the peace of mind of knowing that one of their key present and future players is securely tied down.
