Eder Militao’s difficult season has taken a devastating turn, with the Real Madrid defender now set to miss the FIFA World Cup due to a hamstring injury, reports Miguel Angel Diaz.

The journalist reveals that the Brazilian defender’s situation is far more serious than initially feared.

After suffering a new setback in his left leg agianst Alaves, further medical assessment has confirmed the need for surgical intervention, effectively ruling him out of international competition this summer.

This development marks a painful turn in what has already been a frustrating and injury-hit season for Militao.

A troubling season for Militao

The defender had only recently returned to action after a long layoff, with Real Madrid carefully managing his recovery.

Earlier indications suggested he would miss the remainder of the club season but still recover in time for the World Cup. However, that scenario has now been ruled out.

The issue comes from a recurrence of the hamstring injury he first picked up in December during a match against Celta Vigo.

What initially appeared manageable has now escalated into a long-term concern, forcing both the player and the club into a difficult decision.

From Madrid’s perspective, the situation has been filled with uncertainty, as there were moments of optimism, particularly when the club attempted to project calm following recent matches.

However, internally, concerns were growing, especially after observing Militao’s physical condition and body language, and this injury adds to a worrying pattern.

Over the course of the season, Militao has now suffered three separate muscle-related issues.

The first, earlier in the campaign, resulted in a short absence. The second, which happened in December, was significantly more serious, involving tendon damage that kept him sidelined for four months and forced him to miss a large portion of the season.

Despite that, he worked his way back, targeting a return for a crucial European fixture against Bayern Munich – a goal he successfully achieved.

But just when it seemed like he had turned a corner, another breakdown followed shortly after.

As a result, he will now miss the biggest footballing event.
