Justin De Haas has begun his Famalicão farewell, with a free move to Valencia under consideration this summer. According to La Colina De Nervion, the Dutch centre-back is out of contract on 30 June and Mestalla is eyeing a low-cost addition for Carlos Corberán.
There is no official confirmation, so the situation should be read with caution. The operation is being lined up for the window rather than announced now.
De Haas departs after three seasons in Portugal and has not been a bit-part player. He logged more than 2,700 minutes in Liga Portugal this season and contributed five goals from defence.
The appeal lies in his profile as well as price. A left-footed centre-back at 1.94 metres, he can operate on the left of a back line, a role that is often hard to fill.
A natural left-sided defender can sharpen Valencia’s build-up patterns, receiving and progressing cleanly from that flank. His height also aids both boxes, defending crosses and attacking set pieces.
Arriving without a fee would not make this minor. His market value sits around four to five million euros despite his contract status.
At 26, he offers immediate usability and the potential to appreciate if he adapts to LaLiga.
The step up will still test him. He will need to cope with quicker forwards, protect big spaces and play under pressure from deep.
If all is confirmed, Corberán would have a targeted early piece to structure his defence. For Valencia, anticipation could matter almost as much as spending.
