The 31-year-old centre-back has recently benefited from injuries to Bremer and Juan Cabal to reclaim a starting spot. Over the past few weeks, he has featured in two Serie A matches and one Champions League fixture. Last season, Rugani was on loan at Ajax Amsterdam, where he made 26 appearances across all competitions, scored a goal in the Dutch Cup, and reached the Europa League round of 16.

A product of Empoli, the Italian defender joined Juventus in 2012. Wearing the Bianconeri shirt, he has racked up over 150 appearances, netted 11 goals, and has collected five Serie A titles, four Coppa Italia trophies, and two Supercoppa Italiana wins. Juventus currently sit seventh in Serie A with 12 points from seven matches. The Turin side will face Real Madrid on Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabéu in the Champions League.
