Jonathan David hasn’t had the impact Juventus hoped after a lengthy courtship, but the brass isn’t panicking so early. He has scored just once in seven appearances, adding an assist. In addition, his playing time has been impacted by Dusan Vlahovic’s hot stretch and the arrival of Lois Openda.
Despite that and a pair of glaring misses, the Canadian marksman is likely to be the top option at the position for now, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs. Igor Tudor likes the way the striker moves and interplays with his teammates.
David was somewhat promised he would be a surefire starter during the summer, which was one of the reasons he chose Juventus among several offers. Still, the Bianconeri thought they would get rid of Vlahovic and his humongous contract at the time.
Despite some recent remarks, the Old Lady will try again to offload the Serb in January, hoping one of the teams interested in signing him for free, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich, would lodge a small offer to beat out the competition.
In the meantime, Olympique Marseille are keeping an eye on the former Lille star, Mundo Deportivo reports (via SportMediaset). They would be ready to open talks next summer if he never got going this season.
The opposite would be asinine, but they really screwed the pooch by adding another option up front. Something will have to give. They either discard Vlahovic altogether or they have to find a way to field two strikers together more frequently to keep everybody engaged. It’s not an easy proposition, as it’d come at the expense of other positions.
