Juventus still has to make a major sale despite saving money from some departures

Giovanni Carnevali has done a brilliant job of addressing the financial problems he inherited at Juventus, overseeing the departure of several big earners from the club at the end of this season.

The Bianconeri had struggled with players on high wages who were largely underperforming during Damien Comolli’s spell, with the club seemingly making several poor decisions in the transfer market. Juventus have since worked hard to correct some of those mistakes and improve their financial situation.

Current CEO Carnevali understood the club’s financial position when he arrived and immediately began working to address some of the problems. One of his priorities was moving on players he believed should no longer remain at the club.

Juventus reduce their wage bill

Carnevali never held talks with Dusan Vlahovic because he believed there was no need to keep the striker. His wages were considered too expensive for Juventus, making his departure an important step in reducing the club’s financial burden.

He also agreed to terminate Arthur Melo’s contract and has managed to send Lois Openda and Jonathan David out on loan. Those decisions have helped Juventus reduce some of the costs associated with their squad while giving the club greater flexibility.

The arrival of Randal Kolo Muani from PSG, however, means Juventus have already spent much of the money they saved by allowing Vlahovic to leave. As a result, the Bianconeri still need to generate more funds through player sales.

Juventus need another major sale

The club therefore cannot afford to stop their financial work now. Juventus still have players who command significant wages, and moving one of them on could provide the income required to improve their position further.

According to Football Italia, the Bianconeri still need to ship out a big earner from their squad who can also bring them a significant transfer fee. That sale would help Juventus balance their books before UEFA next examines their finances.

Carnevali’s work has already helped Juventus address several difficult situations, but there is still more to do. The club need to continue reducing costs while generating meaningful transfer income.

With UEFA’s financial assessment approaching, Juventus will be under pressure to complete another important sale. Carnevali’s ability to find a suitable solution could prove crucial as the Bianconeri continue their efforts to put their finances on a stronger footing.
