Palmeiras announced that left-back Arthur has extended his contract until December 2030. The 21-year-old academy graduate has been the immediate understudy to Piquerez and has attracted European interest this season.

With the club since under-11 level, he progressed through every age group before stepping up to the first team at the start of 2026. He won the Campeonato Paulista with the senior side and is competing in three other tournaments this season.

He made his professional debut in January against Mirassol in the Campeonato Paulista and quickly became a regular option. Arthur has played 31 times this year, starting 20 matches, many in April and May while Piquerez was injured.

He has neither scored nor provided an assist in 2026. In 2025 he drew interest from Neom of Saudi Arabia. Palmeiras then received a €13 million offer from Fiorentina in August, about R$ 78 million, and the new deal helps fend off overseas bids.

He said the target mirrors Abel Ferreira’s message, to win four titles in four competitions, and that if nobody has managed it, they could be the first. He added that they are working and training every day to try to achieve it.

He is expected to start the next match against Bahia on 8 October at Nubank Parque. Kick-off is 21:30 Brasília time, with Piquerez returning from Uruguay’s friendlies.
