Juventus target Jean-Philippe Mateta has informed Crystal Palace he wants to leave amid interest from other Premier League and European clubs.
The Frenchman has 18 months remaining on his current deal at Selhurst Park and doesn’t look likely to sign an extension. Juventus have already tried to sign the striker this month, but have so far failed to reach the Eagles’ valuation, which is thought to be around £40m. Aston Villa have also shown interest in a move this month.
Speaking last week, Palace manager Oliver Glasner admitted the club are listening to offers for the forward who has eight Premier League goals so far this season.
“There will be a price that Crystal Palace [accept], with 18 months left on his contract. We’d do the deal, if JP wants. If nobody pays that price, then he will stay.”
For Palace, Mateta’s move will be another huge exit. Last season’s FA Cup winners sold Eberechi Eze to Arsenal in the summer and have just lost captain Marc Guehi this January to Manchester City in a £20m deal.
Speaking of Juve’s transfer situation in his pre-Benfica Champions League press conference, Luciano Spalletti presented a calm face to the media.
“I always have Chiellini, Modesto, Ottolini, and Comolli by my side. These are questions for them; I have a different job. I’m expressing my opinion, but I don’t expect anything.
“I accepted Juve as it was when I arrived. We’ll move forward calmly and consistently, confident of fighting for our objectives with the players we have. Injuries can be worrying, but the players have grown, and I’m happy with them.”
