Kai Havertz to leave Germany camp and return to Arsenal after hamstring injury in Netherlands draw

Kai Havertz will leave Germany's national team camp and return to Arsenal after suffering a hamstring injury during Thursday's 1-1 Nations League draw with the Netherlands.

The 27-year-old was forced off in the 30th minute of Jurgen Klopp's first game in charge of Germany at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

According toDavid Ornstein of The Athletic, there is optimism that the issue sustained by the Arsenal forward is not serious, with Havertz set to return to the club for assessment and recovery.

Havertz has started all five of Arsenal'sPremier League games so far this season, scoring twice. Any extended absence would be a setback for Mikel Arteta's side heading into a busy period after the international break.

Arsenal face unbeaten Leeds United in their firstPremier League fixture after the break, and also have a looming Champions League date with Bayern Munich on the horizon.

Klopp confirmed after the match that both Havertz and Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala, who was withdrawn from the starting lineup after suffering a thigh injury during the warm-up, were sent for MRI scans on Thursday evening.

"At the moment both are on the MRI (scans). I hope we get the diagnosis tonight. But of course that's not great now. I hope this is just nothing bad. The boys are probably out for us. But hopefully then also relatively quickly available again."

Klopp suggested Nick Woltemade could replace Havertz for Germany's next Nations League fixture against Greece on Sunday, with Jonathan Burkardt another alternative at centre-forward.

Klopp's first fixture with the national team saw him haunted by a former favourites. Liverpool's Cody Gakpo equalised in stoppage time to earn new Netherlands head coach Xavi Hernandez a point after Felix Nmecha had opened the scoring for Germany in the first half.
