Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has weighed in on the rivalry that has brewed against Stellenbosch FC, ahead of their Nedbank Cup Round of 32 clash at the DHL Stadium on Wednesday.

The two teams have somewhat become nemeses, with the Soweto giants becoming a hoodoo team to Stellies, as they reigned supreme in four of the last five meetings between the two sides.

Chiefs beat the Cape Winelands outfit three times last season, including eliminating them in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals, en route to clinching the trophy.

Notably, Stellenbosch sent Amakhosi packing in the Carling Knockout Cup Round of 16 this season, adding an interesting layer to the upcoming tie.

Kaze welcomes the developing rivalry between the two sides as he believes it symbolizes immense growth in the South African football landscape.

“It's true that these past seasons there has been very good challenges between the two teams, with great football performances on the field and games that have resulted in a very good rivalry,” said the Burundian tactician.

"South African football is growing because you can find other teams that can challenge teams that are supposed to be big. The more we have teams that challenge each other, the more the league grows and the football in general in South Africa grows.

Chiefs will be eager to retain their Nedbank crown, while Stellies will be aiming to repeat the League Cup feat and dump the Glamour Boys out of yet another domestic cup competition.
