Fortuna Sittard’s 25-year-old striker Kaj Sierhuis scored a first-half hat-trick to help the side to a 5-2 win over struggling Excelsior on Sunday afternoon. After scoring his first of the game in the 15th minute, the striker went on to grab another two within 20 minutes to make it 4-0 at half-time. Sierhuis also grabbed an assist for the opening goal scored by Justin Lonwijk, who then turned provider for Sierhuis’ first goal.
Former Stade Reims forward Sierhuis now has nine goals for the season, with 11 in total for the club since joining in the summer from the French side.
The win helps Fortuna Sittard keep pace with the top eight, with the gap to FC Utrecht down to just two points. For Excelsior, they did manage to grab two goals in the second-half to make sure the score line wasn’t as bad as it could have looked. The Rotterdam based side remain in 15th place, just three points ahead of RKC Waalwijk. They will be thankful that the latter also lost this weekend, going down 1-0 to Go Ahead Eagles.
