Shelbourne FC is very pleased to announce that stalwart defender Kameron Ledwidge has signed a new long-term contract with the club. Kam has been a Red since signing in the summer of 2021 and has been at the heart of all of our achievements since.

The versatile defender spoke to ShelsTV about signing his latest deal that keeps him at Tolka Park: “I am absolutely delighted to be signing again for this great club. I’ve felt at home here since the minute I arrived when everyone welcomed me with open arms. I am very excited for the future at Shels and I’m looking forward to the next few years as we try and get back to winning trophies and having big European nights at Tolka Park.”

Head Coach John Russell said of the 25-year-old: “I’m really pleased that Kam has agreed to stay with us. He has been really important for Shels over the last few seasons, and he’s someone that we know we can rely on. Kam has many qualities; he’s quick, he’s strong, he’s aggressive in his defending and he has the ability to make a difference at both ends of the pitch.” Russell then spoke about the character of the defender who has made over 150 appearances for the club: “For me it’s also about the person. Kam knows this club; he understands what it means to play for Shelbourne FC. Kam has a great attitude every day, he wants to improve and he wants to win. That is exactly the type of player you want around the group” Looking towards the future Russell said: “We’ve spoken a lot about where we want to take the team, and keeping players like Kam is a big part of that. I feel that he has all the attributes to become one of the best defenders in the country. He’s still young and there is more to come from him, which is exciting! I know the supporters will be delighted to see Kam stay, and we’re all looking forward to seeing what he can do over the next few seasons.”

Shelbourne FC Technical Director Luke Byrne stated: “It’s brilliant news for everyone that Kameron has signed a long-term contract with the club. He has had major interest from other clubs throughout the year, but he loves this club and he is determined to bring success back to Tolka Park. Kam has become a real leader in the past 12 to 18 months and I’m looking forward to seeing him grow further into that role under John Russell. As a footballer, Kam has the exact attributes for the way that we want to play. He’s strong, athletic and good on the ball. On a personal level I’m very proud of the man that Kam has become since coming back from Southampton in 2021. And best of all, I know that there is still more to come from him.”
