Kamory Doumbia, La Toupie, leads Ligue 1 scoring after Brest win | OneFootball

Kamory Doumbia, nicknamed La Toupie, struck twice as Brest beat Le Havre 2-1, taking his tally to four and the Ligue 1 lead.

He converted a penalty in the 12th minute then finished a textbook counter on 51 minutes, both moves owing much to the towering Ludovic Ajorque. According to L'Équipe, he also supplied an assist in a 2-2 draw at Le Mans.

In stoppage time he stood among the substitutes to calm fraying nerves as a ragged finale unfolded. Brest held on with a goal and a man more.

It was their first win of the season, their first since 8 March against Le Havre, and the first under Julien Lachuer, appointed in the summer after Éric Roy's death on 17 June.

Lachuer said Doumbia and Ajorque form an important pairing and that the team do not mind who scores, with Doumbia enhancing collective work.

He described the 23-year-old, who arrived in 2023 and is a product of the Jean-Marc Guillou Academy, as a charming presence who sets the tempo and makes others play. The coach urged him to stay ambitious, be consistent and raise his intensity, saying he can do more. Often seen as nonchalant, Doumbia maintains he runs intelligently, and early on he is heading straight for goal.
