Kane brace sends England to World Cup

England have booked their place at the 2026 World Cup with two games to spare thanks to a 5-0 win in Latvia. Harry Kane scored twice in quick succession shortly before half-time, after Anthony Gordon had opened the scoring in Riga. A Maksims Toņiševs own goal and fifth from Eberechi Eze rounded things off for Thomas Tuchel’s men.

The Three Lions top their group with a so far flawless 18 points from six games, scoring 18 goals and conceding none. “Qualifying with two games to spare is a great achievement. We haven’t conceded a single goal either and are playing great football,” Kane said afterwards. “These groups can be hard and we need to fully concentrate in every game. I think we reached a very high level today.”

Jackson and Senegal also qualify

Nicolas Jackson’s Senegal will now also play in Canada, Mexico and the USA after a 4-0 win at home to Mauritania. The Bayern forward set up Iliman Ndiaye for the third of the evening, after ex-FCB man Sadio Mané’s brace. Habib Diallo rounded things off for the Lions of Teranga, who finished qualifying unbeaten on 24 points and will now compete at a World Cup for the fourth time.

Luis Díaz’s Colombia played out a goalless draw with co-hosts Canada.

There were no goals in Arlington as Luis Díaz’s Colombia faced World Cup co-hosts Canada. The Bayern forward played the first hour of the game. The South Americans previously booked their place at next summer’s finals in September.

South Korea win friendly

Minjae Kim’s South Korea ended the international break on a high with a friendly victory, having previously lost 5-0 to Brazil.

South Korea secured their place in the finals well before then and played a friendly match against Paraguay on Tuesday. Minjae Kim played the full 90 minutes of the 2-0 win in Seoul, with Ji-sung Eom and Kang-in Lee scoring the goals.

Late win for U21s

Germany’s U21s were under pressure in Euro qualifying after an opening defeat to Greece.

Two late goals for Germany’s U21s – captained by Tom Bischof – in Northern Ireland kept their hopes of Euro 2027 qualification alive. Assan Ouedraogo and Dzenan Pejcinovic’s penalty overturned an early Ruairi McConville goal for the hosts to leave Germany on six points after three games and in the play-off spot of Group F – three points behind perfect Greece.
