Karim Benzema has held direct talks with Bayer Leverkusen, DZfoot reports, though a Bundesliga move appears unlikely in the near term.

The former Real Madrid forward has sought information about the club from ex-team-mates Lucas Vázquez and Moussa Diaby, and is said to be interested.

On Instagram he now follows Leverkusen alongside Lyon, Real Madrid and Al Hilal.

This does not indicate an imminent switch. Despite ending his relationship with Al Hilal early, he remains under contract with the Saudi Pro League club until 2030.

Leverkusen are well covered at centre forward, with Patrik Schick and Christian Kofane available.

Whether any deal would be financially viable is also unclear, given the Frenchman’s wages.
