The Saudi club Al-Hilal has released an official statement clarifying the nature of its French star Karim Benzema's injury and the estimated duration of his absence.
The 38-year-old striker underwent thorough medical examinations. In its statement, Al-Hilal revealed: “Karim Benzema will be out for a period ranging from 10 to 15 days due to a groin injury.”
As a result, the French international will miss the clash against Al-Shabab on Matchday 24 of the Saudi Pro League. He will also be unavailable for the first leg of the AFC Asian Champions League Elite Round of 16 against Al-Sadd, as well as for the fixture against Al-Najma on Matchday 25.
Benzema had made a dream start to his adventure with Al-Hilal, netting a hat-trick and providing an assist against Al-Okhdood shortly after his move from Al-Ittihad during the winter transfer window.
However, he remained scoreless in the next two outings against Al-Ettifaq, as the club’s form experienced a slight dip.
It’s worth noting that “the Zaeem” recorded two consecutive draws against Al-Ittihad and Al-Taawoun, losing their grip on the top spot and dropping to third place, while Al-Nassr now leads the standings with 58 points.
