Leeds United have confirmed goalkeeper Karl Darlow’s departure from Daniel Farke’s senior squad after a new Elland Road contract was declined. yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk understands the offer did not include a guarantee of the number one role. The 35-year-old has instead joined bitter rivals Manchester United to serve as back-up.

Darlow arrived before the 2023/24 season and debuted in a League Cup win over Shrewsbury Town. The following campaign he took the gloves for the final seven Championship fixtures, six of which Leeds won. The title was sealed at Plymouth Argyle on the final day of a record-breaking year.

In that same term he made his Wales debut, following his grandfather by representing the Dragons in a 2-1 away victory against Montenegro. He now has 15 full caps and has established himself as Cymru’s number one.

Back in the Premier League, Darlow featured 22 times and claimed April’s Save of the Month for a point-blank stop to deny Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ladislav Krejci. He leaves after 38 appearances for Leeds and was praised for professionalism and community work during his time in West Yorkshire.

Leeds always planned to recruit another goalkeeper this summer. With Illan Meslier joining Arsenal and Darlow moving on, Lucas Perri and Alex Cairns are Farke’s options until a new arrival. Perri has been linked with Torino in Italy, while Leeds hold interest in James Trafford and Zion Suzuki.
