Jon Karrikaburu, the former Real Sociedad forward now at Burgos, has accepted a €1,200 fine and an eight-month driving ban for a road safety offence. According to Diario Vasco, the case followed a crash on Sunday and a subsequent positive breath test.
He was travelling in his own car on the N-121-A when it left the road at the Olagüe crossing, leaving the vehicle undriveable. He abandoned it at the scene, then left in a second car that had come to collect him.
That second vehicle made a sudden manoeuvre, drawing the attention of other motorists, including an off-duty Pamplona municipal police officer. Guardia Civil traffic officers were alerted, located the car in Etulain and identified Karrikaburu as the driver.
Breath tests showed a reading just above 0.60 mg/l, a level that constitutes a criminal offence. The earlier incident on the N-121-A was reportedly taken over by another person, who said they had been driving and returned a negative test.
In the duty court, Investigating Court No 1 of Pamplona, the penalty was reduced by one third from the prosecutor's request.
