Kayne Van Oevelen’s proposed move to Valencia is in serious jeopardy after Ipswich Town entered the race and the Spanish club delayed a formal bid while focusing on right-back reinforcements. The 22-year-old has pushed to honour a five-year understanding with Valencia.
De Telegraaf reports that Volendam could sell for around four million euros, about 3.4 million pounds, which would be their second-biggest outgoing after Micky van de Ven’s 8.5 million move to Wolfsburg in 2021.
A deal between the clubs is not yet agreed and Ipswich still need to settle terms with the goalkeeper, an area where Valencia hold an advantage. Even so, Ipswich do not expect major obstacles and aim to finalise the signing before their La Manga training camp next week.
Valencia’s plan was to add a young challenger for Stole Dimitrievski without stretching the budget, seeking to stay below two million. Volendam have stood firm above three million and Ipswich have the greater spending power.
Van Oevelen played 32 games last season with three clean sheets. Volendam were relegated after losing to Willem II in the play-off, which he missed through injury. The drop facilitates a departure but not at a price Valencia consider feasible, especially with vacancies at right-back and Dimitrievski set as first choice.
The player’s wish to play in Spain and the pre-agreement helped Valencia, but the numbers remain decisive. With Ipswich prepared to meet Volendam’s valuation, Valencia must either match it or step aside.
