Holders England begin their qualification campaign for u-21 European Championship this evening with a clash against Kazakhstan.
Lee Carsley’s side made it back-to-back European Championship triumphs in the summer after beating Germany in a thrilling final.
Carsley is now without several of the stars from that success, with Player of the Tournament Harvey Elliott now ineligible alongside names including Elliot Anderson, James McAtee, Tino Livramento and Jonathan Rowe.
A new chapter starts for the Three Lions with fresh faces coming in to the squad. Carsley has included 14 uncapped players in this month’s squad, including Chelsea duo Josh Acheampong and Tyrique George. Both are in line to debut this evening.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Archie Gray is the most experienced player in the squad with 13 u-21 caps, while new Everton recruit Tyler Dibling will hope to build on his two appearances for the age group. The current squad has just three England u-21 goals between them. Carsley will hope to lead a third generation to success, aiding the pathway to the senior side.
England u-21 predicted XI: Beadle; Norton-Cuffy, Acheampong, Alleyne, Chrisene; Gray, Hinshelwood, Bellingham; Nwaneri, Gittens, Lankshear.
Kazakhstan U21 take on England U21 in qualification for the 2027 u-21 European Championship on Monday 8th September 2025. Kick-off is 4pm BST.
