Kessie has signed for Atalanta on a free transfer, returning to the club where he launched his Italian career after nine years.
According to Football Italia, he was in advanced talks with Juventus before negotiations collapsed this morning, and had also spoken to Roma, with Atalanta emerging and finalising the deal within hours.
The Ivorian joined Atalanta’s academy in January 2015, progressed to the first team, then earned a €32m move to Milan in the summer of 2017.
He later left Milan for Barcelona as a free agent in 2022, before spending three years with Al-Ahli. He had been seeking a return to European football.
Kessie turns 30 in December and remains young enough to make a significant impact in Serie A and the Conference League. In his first spell for La Dea he made 31 senior appearances, scoring seven times and providing four assists.
