Newcastle boss Jaissle on Gonzalez debut, Wissa and Elanga’s improvement, and Woltemade’s future after beating Spurs | OneFootball

Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle has refused to be drawn into speculation surrounding Nick Woltemade’s future following his side’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham.

The Newcastle manager was asked about reports linking Woltemade with a move away but insisted he would not be involved in discussing transfer rumours.

“I’m not a coach who takes part in these rumours from the media,” Jaissle said.

“Nick is part of the squad and we have a strong squad.

“But you also know that we’re still active in the transfer market, we still have a couple of days left.”

Jaissle also praised new signing Nico Gonzalez after the midfielder made an impressive debut following his recent arrival from Manchester City.

“Great debut. Not easy for a player just joining after a transfer,” Jaissle said.

“There’s also a human being there. If you leave a club, you join a new club.

“I really think he did amazing and we’re looking forward to seeing more from him.”

Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa continued their impressive start to the new season by both scoring in the win, following difficult debut campaigns at the club.

“It’s not only Wissa and Anthony, it’s all the players,” Jaissle stressed. “We think we are here to improve them and encourage them and they deliver their best and we can trigger their full potential.”
