Sunderland target Kevin Danso has told Spurs he wants to leave, and he was left out of the squad for the 2-0 home defeat against Newcastle United.
According to Sunderland Echo, the Black Cats had a loan bid for the 27-year-old rejected earlier this week, and it is unclear whether they will return.
After the game, head coach Roberto De Zerbi said Danso had approached him two days earlier to ask to go. He added that Richarlison and Pape Sarr had voiced similar intentions, with Sarr nursing a minor injury but nearly ready to train.
Sunderland’s director of football, Florent Ghisolfi, knows Danso well, having signed him at RC Lens. He also tried to recruit him at AS Roma, though a deal did not materialise.
Sunderland are also looking to add attacking options. They are in talks with Marseille over Igor Paixão and have expressed interest in Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.
On Friday, ahead of Fulham’s visit to the Stadium of Light, Régis Le Bris said he was focused on the match but trusted Florent Ghisolfi, Kyril and the recruitment team, and remained confident the club would get what they need by Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.
He welcomed fresh contracts for Romain, Robin and Wilson this week, saying the priority was to keep the core of the squad while adding where required before the window closes.
