Kevin Lamour, 45, has said goodbye to FIFA staff in a message on Tuesday, weeks after publicly criticising Gianni Infantino then being dismissed a few days later. The organisation’s former number three sent a farewell note obtained by RMC Sport.

In it, he told colleagues this had been his final day at FIFA and addressed teams across the body. He thanked secretary general Mattias Grafstrom for always understanding him, never judging and supporting him to the end. He made no reference to Infantino.

Lamour also praised Arsène Wenger as an inspiration, saying working with him over the past two years allowed him to learn, grow and improve each day. He admitted he had not had the impact he wanted within the organisation and apologised to anyone he may have disappointed, adding that sometimes even the best intentions are not enough.

He said he had received hundreds of messages in the past two weeks, which he had not expected and which moved him deeply. He told staff they are the essence of FIFA, and that without them the institution is nothing.

Concluding, Lamour urged colleagues to choose what is right over what is easy, noting that most already do so in their daily work. He added that FIFA is going through a difficult spell but expressed confidence that things will eventually come good, and that if everything is not yet fine, it is not the end.
