Kevin Lamour, FIFA number three and a critic of Gianni Infantino’s private investment plan, has left his role at the governing body.

A FIFA spokesperson said the collaboration with Lamour, who served as chief operating officer, ended on 17 August 2026, thanked him for two years of service and said there would be no further comment.

The French executive had publicly opposed Infantino’s proposal to open FIFA to private investors, later dropped, a move that continues to split the game amid debate over the governance of the Italo-Swiss, who is seeking re-election in March 2027.

Formerly at UEFA, Lamour became chief operating officer in November 2024, overseeing key administrative areas including legal, communications and personnel.

In a 31 July statement he called it the project of a single person, argued it should not go ahead and urged football leaders to ask the right questions and take the right decisions.

He said FIFA employees deserved better than contempt and intimidation, adding that if his stance cost him his job he would accept the decision and sleep well.

Arsène Wenger and secretary general Mattias Grafström also distanced themselves, both welcoming the plan’s abandonment.
