When looking at Kevin Muscat’s CV, it’s a who’s who of achievements. The prospective Rangers manager has been a strong favourite for many fans for some time, and his success in Asia and Oceana is a good reason why. Kevin Muscat as next Rangers manager works.
While some would accuse this of trying to replicate Ange Postecoglou, Muscat’s achievements stand alone.
The Greek won Australia and Japan, Muscat has added China to that list. He has won titles in each of those nations as well as the domestic cup in all bar one. In that one he lost the final.
In short, the guy knows how to win. 6 trophies since 2022 tells you a lot.
The big question on everyone’s lips is can Muscat translate that success to the utter powderkeg that is Rangers and Scottish football?
Muscat will know exactly what he’s walking into here – he’s not naïve, he’s no one’s fool, but this is a job he absolutely wants.
Hell, he only played with Rangers 21 times under Dick Advocaat, but he knows that Rangers are absolute must-win.
He’s watched our last three managers crumple horribly, last four indeed, and he knows that succeeding at Rangers is no easy task.
Many have failed, and Muscat has his eyes open.
This is an appointment Ibrox Noise endorses but we are well aware China, Japan and Australia are not the same level of demand and pressure that Rangers have.
We were naïve ourselves about Michael Beale and Philippe Clement and reckoned their success in the Championship and Belgium (and Beale’s Rangers experience) respectively prepared them for Rangers. Of course it didn’t.
This is why we absolutely wanted Brian Priske – he was coming from a club a bit like Rangers, in Sparta Prague. A club that demands must win and hadn’t done it in ages, till he came along. They now dominate Czechia.
But that ship (appears to have) sailed, and Muscat was definitely on our list of ‘yes’ as well.
He knows Rangers, he knows Scottish football, and he’s had colossal success in the Far East.
We hope this man, if confirmed, can replicate that achievement here for Rangers.
He gets our total support.
