Kevin Nagle insists talk that Lee Grant could lose his job at Huddersfield is false, as he backed the boss despite their mixed start.
Huddersfield Town owner Kevin Nagle has emphatically shut down any talk that Lee Grant could be sacked after the 2-1 defeat to Stockport County on Saturday.
The Terriers had a very busy summer as they prepared for a second consecutive season in League One, with former Man Utd coach Lee Grant named as head coach, which is his first managerial role.
Grant was backed in the market as well, with a host of new recruits arriving, and the vast majority have proven themselves at this level in the past, with Alfie May, Lynden Gooch and Jack Whatmough among those to join the Yorkshire outfit.
Therefore, expectations were high for Huddersfield, and whilst they sit sixth in the table right now, they haven’t always convinced with their performances.
Most recently, they lost at home to Stockport, despite the visitors playing most of the second half with ten men, so the Huddersfield fans were understandably frustrated.
That prompted one to suggest rumours had been going round that Grant could lose his job, but, replying to the fan, Nagle made it clear that the boss retains his full support, as he said ‘this is absolutely false and (just) rumours’.
It seems ludicrous to be discussing Grant’s future at such an early stage, with the 42-year-old having been in charge of just 11 games.
Plus, it’s not like Huddersfield are in a terrible position. They are in the play-off places, and whilst some results have been poor, they are still in the mix to go up.
More importantly, you have to recognise that significant changes took place in the summer, with the new boss coming in and there was a major turnover of players.
So, it was unrealistic to expect things to click immediately, as the new signings need to build a connection on the pitch, and they are adapting to the new methods that Grant wants.
With that in mind, Nagle should be applauded for shutting down any talk Grant could leave, and the boss is sure to appreciate the support he has been shown.
Now, the focus is on improving Huddersfield on the pitch, and Grant will no doubt welcome the international break, as he has more time to work with the players ahead of the big game against Bolton Wanderers on October 16.
