The Huddersfield owner has reacted to criticism that has come his way over the weekend

Huddersfield Town returned to the top six in League One with a 1-0 win against Rotherham United on Saturday, but their fans were far from happy.

The Terriers were victorious over their struggling Yorkshire rivals thanks to a late own goal from Lenny Agbaire. Still, the majority of neutrals, and even Huddersfield fans, left thinking that they'd gotten away with one.

The relegation zone dwellers had the majority of the chances and almost the lion's share of possession, too. Boos rang around the Accu Stadium, and it's not the first time that's happened this season.

For a side with Championship ambitions and a squad capable of achieving them, it wasn't good enough for many Terriers supporters, and, after many felt that sacking Lee Grant and appointing Liam Manning to replace him would solve their current issues, not much has changed.

Now, the frustration is being directed a little further up towards the director's box, and owner Kevin Nagle has responded to some of the grumbles amongst the club's fanbase online.

Huddersfield owner Kevin Nagle is a prominent presence online and often engages with fans on X after games, regardless of the result.

After a win on the opening day of the USL Championship campaign for the Sacramento Republic, the American second-tier side that Nagle also owns across the Atlantic, Nagle praised their performance, which incited some reaction from Huddersfield fans about the direction of their club.

"Our owner has every right to brag about his club across the pond, but getting his house in order over here would be useful," wrote one fan.

After Nagle responded, asking them to explain what getting a house in order meant, he sympathised with his fan's frustrations.

"No apologies needed," he wrote. "I feel and hear the frustration and unhappiness. I see the crowds (or lack of them).

"Let me just say this: everyone KNOWS within the organisation what we need to do to play competitive and enjoyable football and hopefully win. I can assure you of this.

"But to get the proper execution, I cannot guarantee. It's just the fact, or I would get on the pitch and play myself if I could. (God help us on that one!)"

The 71-year-old owner probably isn't what Liam Manning needs to turn the ship around on the field and get the club in a position where they can confidently challenge for promotion out of League One.

However, they need to find that level sooner rather than later, or else it'll be a third year in the third tier under Kevin Nagle's ownership.

Huddersfield Town fans have every right to be frustrated at their club

It's a really strange situation at Huddersfield, currently. On paper, they have the squad and the manager capable of winning the whole division; their results at home have been near-perfect, and they're currently in the top six.

However, if you ask the majority of Terriers fans, they're confused as to why they're still in the top six currently, and most believe that it's only a matter of time before they fall back out.

For a side who have been backed well in the transfer market, especially this past summer, with a stadium which is one of the best and most modern in the division, there's been an expectation that hasn't been met at all yet.

Whether it will be between now and the end of the campaign is still to be known. Liam Manning's side head to bottom club Port Vale on Saturday, and even with Vale being fresh off their FA Cup successes, it's a must-win game ahead of a difficult run of games to end March.
