Arsenal have plenty of reasons to be apprehensive about the visit of Bayern Munich in late November. The German team sit top of the Champions League table, and they’ve won every single game in all competitions since the start of the season.

To underline their fantastic form, Bayern raced into a 2-0 lead against the reigning Champions League winners PSG away from home on Tuesday night, with Luis Diaz scoring both goals in the first 32 minutes.

But fears that the ex-Liverpool winger might do the same at the Emirates Stadium in Bayern’s next Champions League game were quickly quashed, as Diaz was shown a red card just before half time.

Diaz had lost possession to Achraf Hakimi, and he chased after the PSG player before diving into a two-footed challenge and landing on his opponent’s ankle.

The referee initially gave a yellow card to Diaz, but on VAR review upgraded it to a red. Hakimi left the pitch in tears, with fears that he’s suffered a serious injury.

Diaz will now definitely be suspended for Bayern’s visit to Arsenal on November 26th, as red-card suspensions don’t carry across competitions and that’s their next game in Europe. That’s significant news, with Diaz providing 15 goal contributions in his 16 games for Bayern.

Even with 10 men, Bayern still managed to hold onto the win, albeit after conceding a goal to Joao Neves and facing a lot of late pressure for an equaliser.

The upside of that is PSG were one of few other teams with a 100% record from their first three Champions League fixtures. So if Arsenal can now beat Bayern, they’ll create a gap to both clubs.

Yet Bayern have plenty of other threats besides Diaz, including familiar names in Harry Kane and Serge Gnabry. They’ll be missing one player at the Emirates, but they’re still a huge obstacle to overcome.
