Sunderland have been linked with Juventus midfielder Khéphren Thuram, but Sky Sports has played down any move, indicating central midfield is not a summer priority. Calciomercato reported Sunderland and Nottingham Forest had asked for information, with Juventus potentially open to offers to raise funds this summer.
The Italian outlet put Thuram’s price at €35million-€40million, roughly £30.7million-£35.1million. It added that a sale at that level could yield about €23million-€28million, around £20.2million-£24.6million, in capital gains.
Sky Sports said Thuram is not on Sunderland’s radar, that he has three years left on his Juventus contract and that there has been no contact. It also indicated central midfield is not an area the club plans to address in this window.
The stance is notable given Granit Xhaka’s influence and the looming European campaign under Régis Le Bris, which will increase the workload. Extra cover around Xhaka could appear logical in that context.
Even so, Thuram does not look a realistic or active target for Sunderland. At £30million-plus, with a long contract and significant outside interest, the 25-year-old always felt an ambitious link.
The Italian report further stated Juventus are chasing around €100million in capital gains by 30 June 2027, view Thuram as a high-value asset and would prefer to keep him, and could instead sacrifice Teun Koopmeiners. Nottingham Forest were also named among Premier League sides to have requested financial details.
Whether those claims reflect genuine pursuit, agent manoeuvring or market-making is unclear. For now, the wider question of midfield depth at Sunderland may persist as the summer unfolds.
