Kieran Tierney suffers fresh injury setback following Celtic’s Rangers defeat | OneFootball

Celtic defender Kieran Tierney has been forced to withdraw from the Scotland squad after picking up a knock during Sunday’s defeat to Rangers.

Tierney started the 1-0 loss at Celtic Park but was withdrawn after 71 minutes, with the latest setback now ruling him out of Scotland’s upcoming international fixtures.

The 29-year-old’s fitness will be a concern for Celtic given his injury history, although the international break provides him with a valuable recovery period before the Hoops return to action in mid-October.

Scotland are preparing to face Slovenia, Switzerland and North Macedonia during the break as Sebastien Pocognoli continues to reshape his squad.

Tierney is not the only withdrawal, with Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean also ruled out of the upcoming matches.

Pocognoli has responded by handing Blackburn Rovers midfielder Kristi Montgomery his first senior Scotland call-up.

The England-born midfielder, who qualifies to represent Scotland through his mother, could now make his international debut during the forthcoming triple-header.
