Things appeared to be going swimmingly at Molineux, with Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez through the door as the club looked to steal a march on their rivals.

However, Rob Edwards' sacking came out of nowhere and with Cesar Peixoto in his place, reports circulated that Trippier could cancel his contract at the Black Country club due to his unhappiness at the decision.

Now, there has been an important update regarding the England international's future with the Old Gold.

Signing a player of Trippier's calibre in the Championship is some achievement, with his leadership, experience and crossing ability sure to guide Wolves to a successful season.

When the right-back put pen to paper on a move to Molineux, he mentioned Edwards as an integral factor in his decision to sign for the Old Gold and clearly was not expecting what was to follow.

The Welshman was seemingly hired by the Black Country club in advance of their anticipated Championship return as the man to take the club back to the Premier League, but the higher powers had other ideas.

While there were rumours that Trippier could tear up his Wolves contract, it now appears he is staying put at the club.

The Telegraph's John Percy reports that the Englishman is fully committed to the Old Gold after Edwards' shock sacking, and the 35-year-old has been in contact with new boss Peixoto.

Percy adds that the defender will report for pre-season training in July after the player posted photographs of himself training in Majorca on his social media.

The news that Trippier is set to stay at Molineux will come as welcome relief to Wolves supporters, and now everyone will be hoping to draw a line under the matter.

If the 35-year-old had decided to rip up his contract, then it would surely have sparked backlash from some supporters and the club would have some questions to answer.

Of course, the Englishman will certainly field questions on the matter when he next sits in front of the press, and it will be intriguing to see whether he provides an honest answer about what happened.

With the right-back to remain at Molineux, it means that the club are now well-placed to bring in more talent, as players will look to the signings of Trippier and Jimenez and believe that the Black Country club mean business this campaign.
