King Charles' Birthday Honours 2026 recognise Wolverhampton campaigner Patrick Vernon with a knighthood and Birmingham-born guitarist Tony Iommi with an MBE, alongside a raft of regional awardees.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Vernon, who grew up in All Saints and Penn Fields, is honoured for services to racial equality and social justice. He led the successful push for 22 June to be recognised as Windrush Day, founded the 100 Great Black Britons poll and co-founded the Majonzi Fund supporting communities disproportionately affected by coronavirus fatalities.

Vernon said the honour reflects more than 30 years of work across multiple sectors. He added that he sees it as a chance to intensify efforts to tackle inequality and to encourage wider engagement with the injustices faced by the Windrush Generation and migrant communities.

Iommi receives an MBE for services to music and charity. He formed Black Sabbath with former schoolmate Ozzy Osbourne in 1968, remained the band’s only constant member across five decades and was its principal composer, with numerous polls ranking him among the greatest guitarists.

Staffordshire recipients include OBEs for Professor Pamela Kearns and Professor Jamie Norman Waterall, MBEs for Jeremy Paul Cartwright, Neil Cotterill, Anthony Hill, Vincent Stuart Jones, Lou Macari, Sharon Machin, Peter Stuart Merry, Sally Jane Miner, Jamie Richards, Clive Douglas Smith, Nichola Twemlow and Dr Karen Jayne Weldon, and BEMs for Michael John Barnard, Janet Mary Cooper, David Mark Green, Elizabeth Mary Greig and Professor Fiona Sarah Winifred McCullough.
