Klopp reacts to Karim Adeyemi’s horror miss vs Netherlands: ‘We are working with him’ | OneFootball

Jurgen Klopp’s first match as manager of the German national team saw his side play out a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, now coached by former Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez.

Germany were heading towards a narrow 1-0 victory until a late goal from Cody Gakpo. But the scoreline could have been much different if Barcelona star Karim Adeyemi had successfully converted a goalscoring opportunity.

In the first half, with Germany already leading 1-0, Adeyemi almost had an empty goal to aim at thanks to some smart play from Nathaniel Brown. But the forward failed to even hit the target.

Klopp reacts to Adeyemi miss

Now, Jurgen Klopp has reacted to the Adeyemi miss for the first time as Germany prepare for their next game against Greece tomorrow.

The former Dortmund coach defended the former Dortmund player, adding that Adeyemi has enjoyed a solid start at Barcelona and he is delighted with what he brings to the table.

“The Karim I got to know here is a wonderful and very kind young man. And he’s left an excellent impression so far at Barcelona. Being here means a lot to him,” he said (h/t Sport1).

“Then he wastes a chance like that, one he usually buries. Dealing with that is the big challenge in a football player’s life. And we’re working with him to stay in the game even after something like this happens,” he added.

Klopp pointed out that Adeyemi is still a young and developing player, unlike a few other options Germany has in the final third, including Serge Gnabry, whose mistake actually led to the Netherlands equaliser late in the game.

“He’s still young, and we’re working on it. I love the whole package he brings,” he concluded.

Long way to go for Adeyemi

Adeyemi, for his part, remains calm about his position and has recently spoken about how he is enjoying life at Barcelona.

The vote of confidence from Klopp could go a long way in boosting his confidence as Germany prepare for the Greece game tomorrow.

Hansi Flick will be keeping a close eye on Adeyemi’s performance, given that he is in direct competition with the other new signing of the summer, Anthony Gordon.

With six goal involvements in eight matches, Adeyemi has already enjoyed a solid start to Barcelona that he can be proud of.
