Koke has called for an end to the scrutiny of Julian Alvarez after Atletico Madrid’s 2-1 Champions League defeat at Liverpool. The captain said the forward should be left to play and rebuild his rhythm.
"We're tired [of it]. We have to leave the boy alone, to let him enjoy himself, to let him do his job and play football. Between all of us, we have to leave him in peace," Koke said. He told Movistar that the summer attention had been really tiresome and hoped Alvarez could now work in peace.
Alvarez supplied the assist for Marcos Llorente to put Atletico ahead, and completed his first full 90 minutes of the season. Liverpool hit back as Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister turned it round at Anfield.
Llorente later backed his team-mate, saying Alvarez is very important, that he provided a marvellous assist and that the squad need him sharp after a long spell without competing. He added that the forward worked hard and that the dressing room are with him because he can make the difference.
Alvarez pushed to join Barcelona in the summer, a move Atletico refused, which angered sections of the fanbase. With the window closed, he now needs to repair relations and focus on keeping his place. Atletico face Real Sociedad next in La Liga, sitting sixth with two wins, one draw and one loss.
