FC Bayern are apparently turning their attention to the British market once again. According to a report by English radio station talkSPORT, the Munich club are looking closely at Cardiff City’s Dylan Lawlor. The 19-year-old central defender is regarded as one of the biggest defensive talents in Welsh soccer and, despite his young age, has already attracted the attention of numerous top clubs
Lawlor currently plays for Cardiff City in League One, the third-highest division in England. The sporting stage may seem manageable, but the defender’s talent has long been recognized beyond Wales. The teenager has already made 23 competitive appearances this season and has become an integral part of the starting eleven
According to the report, scouts from the Premier League are regularly on site to observe the technically strong defender, who is confident in tackles

It is no coincidence that FC Bayern have now also taken notice. The personal component behind the possible interest is particularly interesting. Wales national team coach Craig Bellamy is said to have drawn Vincent Kompany’s attention directly to Lawlor. Bellamy and Kompany have a long history together – first as teammates at Manchester City, later as coaching colleagues at Anderlecht and Burnley FC. Bellamy knows the Bayern coach’s requirements profile exactly and is said to be convinced that Lawlor fits the profile he is looking for perfectly
Bellamy himself sees Lawlor as a key player for the future of the Welsh national team. Despite his young age, the defender has already made three senior appearances – a remarkable figure for a player from the English third division. His calmness on the ball, his good positioning and his intelligence make him a modern central defender who can also make his mark in the build-up play
Since Brian Barry-Murphy took over as Cardiff City coach in the summer, Lawlor has taken the next step in his development. Under the new coach, the teenager is an undisputed regular and a key factor in the Welsh side’s strong season, which currently sees them top the League One table and clearly on course for promotion
Lawlor has also made a lasting impression on the international stage recently. He made his first appearance in the starting eleven for the senior national team in the World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan and played for 90 minutes. In the end, he was voted player of the match after the 1-0 win. He again started the subsequent November games and helped Wales secure a play-off place for the World Cup
It remains to be seen if and when Bayern will take concrete steps.
