Kylian Mbappé trained on the pitch with Real Madrid on Sunday, the day after the 4-1 home win over Elche, as he continues his recovery from a left knee sprain sustained in late February.

The 27-year-old appeared in club images during the morning session, two days before Tuesday’s Champions League round of 16 second leg at Manchester City at 21:00, after a first leg that finished 3-0. Head coach Alvaro Arbeloa said they had a plan and that Mbappé would not face Elche, adding he was confident the forward would travel to Manchester if his progress allowed.

Alvaro Carreras took part in part of the session, while the injured group continued their recovery work. That points to Mbappé still being in the rehabilitation phase despite stepping back onto the grass.

The players began with individual work indoors, then moved into a rondo, small-goal possession and position-specific drills. They finished with a match in tight spaces.

Images showed Mbappé contesting a duel with Alvaro Carreras during the workout. Before the international break, Real visit City in Europe then host Atlético next Sunday at 21:00 in La Liga.
