Kylian Mbappe breaks silence on Ceuta shirt controversy: “I don’t want to put priority on suffering” | OneFootball

Real Madrid’s 3-2 victory over Elche on Tuesday has been partially overshadowed by the pre-match actions of Ibrahima Konate, Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe. All 22 players were to wear phrase “Todos somos caballas“, which was a message of support for the people of Ceuta following the recent migrant crisis in the city, but the aforementioned trio chose not to wear their shirts fully, which sparked a lot of backlash.

Amid all of this, Mbappe has quickly come out to clarity his position. During an interview with Diario AS, he explained his thought-process behind the decision not to fully wear the Ceuta support t-shirt.

“I want to explain it well so that people understand. It was a decision of the clubs to put the shirt on, to wear the shirt. The players had to wear it. The first thing I want to say is that I have all the solidarity with Ceuta and with all the victims. Because before being a player, I am human. But I also wanted to have a gesture and a thought for all the immigrants who have lost their lives and who are also in harsh conditions.

“It was not an easy position, difficult, because in the end people may think that I am against the people of Ceuta but no, absolutely not. I have nothing against them, and I support them 100% with my thoughts. But I also wanted to have a thought for all the people who suffer, because in the end I am human and I don’t want to put priority on suffering. There are people who suffer, and it makes me very sad to see that in the world. I’m a guy who wants the best for the world we have. I intend to give a message of positivity and peace, and I hope that this will be solved quickly.”

Mbappe has never been afraid of making big statements

It is not the first time that Mbappe has made a big statement, with him having done so on several occasions with relation to matters in his homeland of France. As one of the biggest footballers on the planet, he knows that his influence is huge, which is why he has often tried to make the world a better place with his actions.
