Kylian Mbappé has ended a 20-year association with Nike to join Swiss brand On on a 10-year deal. According to L'Équipe, the France captain was drawn by the chance to help build the company’s football division and co-create products.

At On’s base near the river Limmat, Mbappé set out his ambitions alongside co-founder and co-CEO David Allemann and Thierry Henry, the brand’s new director of football. It followed Real Madrid’s 1-2 defeat to Atlético.

Nike pushed hard to keep him, including an offer said to match LeBron James’s terms at about €20m a year. Mbappé acknowledged doubts about leaving a lifelong partner, but said this was the moment to seek new sensations, challenge himself and blend his game knowledge with On’s technology.

Henry called it a measured risk and highlighted constant collaboration with athletes. He believes their combined experience can help shape the right boot.

Allemann emphasised On’s future focus and introduced LightSpray, a process that forms a second-skin upper, robot-built in about three minutes with no excess material.

The boot and wider range are still in development and slated for 2027. Mbappé has tried prototypes in training but not in official matches, where he has worn logo-masked Nike. He said he plans to switch very soon and wants to share the process rather than unveil overnight.

Mbappé will also become a shareholder, as Roger Federer did with On. He has not ruled out a future Mbappé line, though for now his priority is making On central in football.
