Kylian Mbappé injury update: Real Madrid expect two-week absence with knee issue | OneFootball

Real Madrid expect Kylian Mbappé to be sidelined for around two weeks after confirming he has suffered a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of his left knee.

The diagnosis, confirmed by the club on Saturday, suggests the injury is not as bad as first feared. There is an outside chance of Mbappe featuring in Madrid's nextLa Liga fixture, the visit of Villarreal on October 10.

TheFrance captain was hurt on Friday during his country's 1-0 Nations League win over Türkiye, Zinedine Zidane's first match in charge. Mbappé scored the only goal early in the second half for France, but he sat on the turf rubbing his left knee moments later.

Zidane was downbeat on the forward's prognosis straight after the game.

The French Football Federation said Mbappé had "suffered a tendon injury and will miss the rest of the camp", and he returned to Spain for a scan. France still face Belgium home and away and Italy in this window without their skipper.

Another blow for Real Madrid

Mbappé has been Madrid's top scorer again this season, with eight goals and two assists in eight games across all competitions, and he is on the 30-man shortlist for the 2026 Ballon d'Or.

Los Blancos will hope Mbappe can recover in time for their La Liga return next month. Jose Mourinho's side have made a mixed start to the league campaign with five wins and two defeats from seven fixtures. It leaves them six points behind Barcelona, who have made a perfect start to the campaign.

Madrid's injury list is also growing. Ibrahima Konate is out for around three to four weeks after getting hurt in the France camp, while Fede Valverde suffered a "grade three" ankle sprain in the derby defeat to Atletico Madrid that is expected to keep him out for weeks.
