Kylian Mbappe has moved level with Real Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez on the Champions League’s all-time scoring list after finding the net in Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Inter Milan.

The French forward now has 71 goals in the competition, putting him fifth alongside Raul and leaving only four players above him in UEFA Champions League history. 

Even more striking is how quickly Mbappe reached the milestone, needing just 99 appearances.

His 71 goals have been spread across three clubs. He scored six goals during his time with AS Monaco, added 42 for PSG and has now registered 23 since joining Real Madrid.

Mbappe continues rapid Champions League rise

Over the years, Mbappe has also produced some memorable individual displays in the competition. 

He has five Champions League hat-tricks to his name, including a remarkable performance for PSG against Club Brugge, when he came off the bench in the second half to score three times and provide an assist in a 5-0 group-stage victory.

His other hat-trick came at Camp Nou in 2021, where Mbappe scored three goals for PSG during a dominant 4-1 victory over Barcelona in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie.

The remaining three hat-tricks came for Real Madrid against the likes of Manchester City, Kairat Almaty and Olympiacos.

The next targets on the list are considerably further away, as Karim Benzema currently sits fourth with 91 Champions League goals, meaning Mbappe still needs another 20 to catch his former Real Madrid teammate.

Above Benzema, the numbers become even more daunting.

Robert Lewandowski has scored 109 goals in the competition and remains third on the all-time list. Lionel Messi is second with 129, while Cristiano Ronaldo occupies the summit with an extraordinary 141 goals.

Mbappe therefore still has considerable ground to make up if he is to challenge the very top of the rankings.
