La Horda Frénétik, one of Metz’s two main ultra groups, have halted chants, tifos and visual displays at Saint-Symphorien and away, effective immediately.
The group said in a statement that activities could resume only if there is a change of mentality and sincere respect for the club.
Formed in 1997 and long paired with la Gruppa among Metz’s principal ultra groups, La Horda Frénétik now operate amid a bleak backdrop as the club remain bottom of Ligue 1.
The group believes Metz can have a bright future and that another model is possible, yet it argues nobody at the club backs a long-term sporting project, leaving it unable to act as a unifying force in the East Stand.
The capos’ speeches have run dry, and the group says it can no longer find the energy or motivation to support fanatically when the team offers no reason to hold on.
Despite the halt in encouragement, it will keep expressing its views and join actions such as the joint march held last Sunday before Brest under the banner “pour un projet sportif à Metz”.
Metz visit the Stade Bollaert de Lens on Sunday at 15:00, then host Toulouse at Saint-Symphorien on 15 March at 17:15.
