Vitor Roque’s late loan move to Real Betis served as a relief for many, who were either hoping for the attacker to redeem himself at Barcelona or to leave the club.

Roque, who was linked with a permanent move elsewhere throughout the summer, ultimately settled for a loan move to Real Betis.

The Brazilian has enjoyed a solid start to his career in Seville, notably scoring his first goal for his new club in the recent 2-0 win over Leganes.

Real Betis have a buyout clause

Not too long after Roque’s impressive performance against Leganes, Real Betis management has confirmed they have an option to buy the player out at the end of the season.

As reported by SPORT, Real Betis president Angel Haro and sporting director Manu Fajardo have confirmed that there is a purchase clause for Roque for next summer, and can thus sign the player permanently for a fee of €25 million.

However, should Real Betis activate this clause, they are only entitled to 80% of Roque’s transfer rights. That means Barcelona will continue to be entitled to 20% of the player’s future sell-on fee.

At the time of negotiations, Barcelona believed such kind of arrangement would help them recoup the majority of the amount they spent on the forward earlier in January.

On the flip side, however, Barça do not hold any buyback clause and thus cannot sign the player on a cut-price deal, if he does manage to exceed expectations at Real Betis.

This could give off mixed sentiments to Barcelona fans. On one hand, there is a possibility the club will be able to recoup a chunk of the investment made in Roque next summer.

But on the other hand, re-signing Roque could prove to be a costly affair, should the forward explode at Real Betis this season.
