The future of former Barcelona prodigy Jan Virgili has once again entered the spotlight.
The young winger, who left the club in search of regular football, could yet find his way back to Camp Nou sooner than expected, according to fresh insight from Mallorca-focused journalist Miguel Chacartegui.
Virgili’s departure last summer was driven by realism rather than disappointment.
At just 19 years of age, the winger understood that breaking into Hansi Flick’s starting XI would be extremely difficult.
Seeking consistent minutes at the top level, he chose Mallorca as the best platform to accelerate his development.
The move itself was structured with Barcelona’s long-term interests in mind.
Mallorca paid €3.5 million for 50% of the player’s rights, tying him down to a five-year contract until 2030. Importantly, Barcelona retained 50% of any future sale and secured the right of first refusal, even though no direct buyback clause was included in the deal.

Speaking about the situation, Chacartegui offered clarity on how Mallorca would approach a potential return to Barcelona.
He explained the broader context of the relationship between the two clubs before making Mallorca’s stance clear.
“I think Barça has a surplus in that position. Relations between Mallorca and Barcelona are good, as we’ve seen with Pablo Torre and Jan Virgili.
“There was also talk about Hector Fort, although he ended up at Elche. If the player wants to return, Mallorca won’t stand in his way,” Chacartegui explained as reported by SPORT.
The journalist went further, hinting that Virgili’s stay at Mallorca may be short-lived regardless of Barcelona’s intentions.
“Here, we all think that Jan Virgili will change teams next summer.
“We are very clear that he will not stay here long, because he does not have a high buyout clause and he is one of the best players in La Liga,” added the journalist.
