LaLiga condemned racist abuse and voiced support for Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior after pre-match chants in Albacete on Wednesday, when Madrid exited the Copa del Rey 3-2.

The league said in a social media post that it rejects any racist insults on or off the pitch and that it stands with the player.

The chanting was heard before a game in which Álvaro Arbeloa took charge of Madrid for the first time and Vinícius started.

Vinícius has previously been targeted. In June 2024, three fans were convicted of offences against moral integrity with a hate aggravation for insulting him during a match at Mestalla, and were given eight months in prison after being identified and expelled by Valencia.

In May 2025, the Valladolid provincial court handed one-year prison sentences to five people for a hate crime over insults aimed at the Brazilian at the José Zorrilla on 30 December 2022.

A month later, four Frente Atlético members admitted hanging a mannequin in his shirt ahead of the January 2023 derby, and were convicted of a hate crime and threats. They received sentences of 14 to 22 months, avoided jail under a deal, and were given fines, disqualification orders and bans from approaching the player and football stadiums.
