LaLiga Hypermotion kicks off on Friday at 20.30 at Zubieta, with Biscayan referee Eder Mallo in charge. As reported by AS, Real Sociedad B host Castellón to open the season, balancing player development with the need to compete.
The hosts return knowing the division. The squad is younger after the departures of Arana, Dadie and Mikel Rodríguez, plus others working with the first team, yet last term taught the potrillos to compete. Early on they struggled to see games out despite good football, then adapted, winning at Riazor against Deportivo de La Coruña and in Cádiz, and turning Zubieta into a fortress until matchday 17.
Jon Ansotegi still does not know which players he can field. Only on Friday will he learn who Pellegrino Matarazzo takes to London for a Stamford Bridge friendly against Chelsea, which will be the last pre-season game. It is likely that Ibai Aguirre, Carrera, Beitia and Marchal travel and miss the league opener.
Entertainment is on the cards. Last season brought a 5-4 thriller to Castellón at Castalia, and a 4-2 home win for Real B in Zubieta.
Castellón travelled to the Basque Country yesterday aiming to extend last season’s strong image. Unabashed about their ambition, the albinegros hope to be back in the promotion fight.
